The tithe barn was on the South side of Tithebarn Street until it was demolished in 1969 to make way for the Teanlowe Centre car park.
The tithe barn was used to store crops collected as tithes (rents) from the local farmers by St. Chads Church.

Junction of Tithebarn Street with Queensway; Congregational Chapel as restored in 1886, once the Sunday School, now the United Reform Church; later church to the right now redeveloped as apartments. The original Independent Chapel dated back to about 1808.
