Appeal for new committee members

The Poulton-le-Fylde Historical and Civic Society was created in 1981 and, apart from a break during the Covid pandemic, has met continuously since that time. The Society currently has a committee of 8 members who have various roles and responsibilities. However, as there are a couple of areas where we have limited expertise, we are looking to recruit new committee members who have an interest in and can make a positive contribution to the Society.

There are two main areas of interest where we are looking for fresh input, namely:

  • Liaison with Wyre Borough Council regarding Conservation Area issues and planning matters.
  • Assistance with website development, communications and ways of promoting the Society.

The aims of the Society as established in our constitution are as follows:

  • To study, for enjoyment and enlightenment, the past and present history and culture of Poulton-le-Fylde and the surrounding area.
  • To liaise with the Local Authority on planning matters, particularly those applying to the Conservation Area.
  • To hold meetings at regular intervals for talks by guest speakers and members.
  • To provide a forum for members to meet, discuss and exchange information regarding individual interests and researches.
  • To promote and organise exhibitions, workshops and field work.
  • To produce periodic Newsletters.
  • To promote the publication of members’ work.
  • To create and maintain an archive of relevant local historical data from any source, and to allow appropriate access to the archive.

We are also interested to hear from anyone who is undertaking new areas of research or other projects.

The committee meets monthly on the first Friday of the month at Poulton Library, but we are also open to having ‘associate members’ who may not wish to come to all committee meetings.

If you feel you are able to contribute please email us or contact any of the existing members of the committee. Our website email address is curator.phcs@gmail.com.
