4 Fishwick is from 1885, Porter from 1876, and Thornber from 1837. Porter was printed in Fleetwood and Thornber in Poulton, the latter drawing on an earlier and more comprehensive publication. Edward Baines, then-time owner-editor of the Leeds Mercury published Volume I of his History, Directory, and Gazetteer of the County Palatine of Lancaster in 1825, followed by Volume II the next year which included Poulton-in-the-Fylde on page 462. Both volumes had a “Directory Department by W. Parson.” and were published in Liverpool. The publications were re-worked as 4 volumes in 1836, and again in 1868.
Poulton-Le-Fylde Through Time
Christine Storey

Poulton-le-Fylde has a long history. It is recorded in Domesday, together with over sixty other small communities in Amounderness, a sparsely populated coastal area of north-west Lancashire.
From its earliest days Poulton has served as a market town, supplying goods and services needed by the outlying farms and communities. The ancient parish church dedicated to St Chad stands at the head of the Market Place.
While retaining its medieval street layout, planning decisions made over recent years have changed Poulton from the small rural market town of the early twentieth century to the community of today and inevitably some of the town’s historical legacy has been lost.
This book records some of Poulton’s past and compares it with the present scene, a reminder of what has gone and maybe a surprise to more recent residents.
