Church Street – part 2
The 2nd part of the gallery covers the period from 1910 to modern times. This includes the creation of an entrance to the new Teanlowe Centre and the conversion to a pedestrian precinct.
This 1932 map shows the more familiar layout of Church Street with no buildings in front of the Church. The street would still have 2-way motor traffic at this date.
Church Street probably in the 2nd decade of the 20th Century, after the East side of the street had been demolished in 1910.

The Town Hall in Church Street, after it ceased to be the Bay Horse pub and before it became the Old Town Hall Pub.
The White House is where Poulton Optical Services now stands. The style of car would suggest a date in the 1960s or early 70s.

Church Street when it was occupied by the Town Hall and Post Office.

Church Street when it still had two-way traffic. The street also contained the Post Office, Long’s Booksellers (now The Pork Shop) and Lancastria Co-op (now Peacocks).
In 1973 the South West corner of Church Street was demolished to accommodate the building of the entrance to the new Teanlowe Centre. The Bernard Hope & Co van in the photo supplied maintenance services to offices for typewriters, adding machines and other equipment now long since outdated. They also specialised in converting old £ s d adding machines so they could also work in the new decimal currency from February 1971.
Church Street was converted into a pedestrian precinct in the 1970/80s.
Church Street more or less as we would recognise it today.
