Website Information
This website has been designed using WordPress, currently one of the most popular tools for creating simple sites.
We list below some simple instructions on how to use special features used in our website.
+/- Subtitles
Pages can have subtitles such as this example preceded by a + or – sign, allowing the user to expand or collapse the content. Only one such subtitle can be viewed at a time, to avoid overcrowding the visible page.
Images
Most images on the website, including photos and maps, can be expanded to their maximum size by clicking within the image. Clicking again returns to the web page containing the image.
The Society began hosting a website in 2001, all about the history of Poulton, with the domain:
poulton-le-fylde.hcs.co.uk
Screenshots of the home pages of the site as it appeared in 2010 and the last homepage in 2024 are included below.

We decided in December 2023 to replace the website with one that could be edited with simpler software and a shorter domain name, which is:
plf-hcs.org.uk
The letters “plf” stand for Poulton le Fylde, and “hcs” stands for Historical and Civic Society.
Creating this new website took longer than expected whilst we desperately tried to get to grips with website design. However, the versatility of our WordPress editing software enables us to keep our website refreshed.
We intend to regularly update the site, with the proviso that most material is relevant to the town of Poulton le Fylde or its immediate vicinity.
Whilst our articles are checked for accuracy, please bear with us if a few errors creep in. The articles range from fairly short ones about the town to lengthier ones for history afficionados, complemented with photos, illustrations, or maps. For updates to the website, please read our What’s New web page.
We hope that you enjoy our website, and will return here to view new articles.
We welcome your feedback for ways to improve our site. Please send messages to the email address given below.
